5 Thoughtful Gift Ideas from Independent UK Makers

5 Thoughtful Gift Ideas from Independent UK Makers

There’s something special about giving a gift that’s been made with care - something crafted by real people with real stories behind their work.

At Covet, we’ve always championed small, independent makers whose products combine craftsmanship, beauty, and heart. So, whether you're shopping early for Christmas or looking for that perfect “just because” present, here are five thoughtful gift ideas from some of our favourite suppliers - each one chosen with love.

Gift #1: The Weekend Leather Hold-all by Red Leathers

About the Maker: Red Leathers

As the name suggests, Red Leathers makes leather goods - particularly bags. We’ve known Kirk, the founder and owner, for 3 or 4 years, ever since we first met him at his market stall in Winchester.

What drew us to Kirk’s stall initially was the quality of the bags, the fabulous colours - and Kirk’s personality, of course. We now stock his buffalo hide hold-all bags and rucksacks.

Kirk doesn’t make the bags himself, but he certainly knows how to choose them. You can find him online via his website or at one of his pop-up market stalls, such as in Winchester.

“We visited Kirk at the Winchester market recently and took a photo of him and Lyn together - it was lovely to catch up in person.”

The Gift: The Weekend Leather Hold-all

A gift that never goes out of style - this beautifully handcrafted 21″ buffalo leather hold-all is the ideal companion for weekends away. Sized to fit most airline cabin rules but spacious enough for 40 litres of packing, it’s a practical luxury piece.

It features an internal zip compartment, a handy outer pocket for essentials, and is finished with solid brass hardware and bottle-green canvas lining. The reinforced leather handles and padded shoulder strap make it as comfortable as it is durable.

This is luggage that only gets better with age - a timeless gift for travel lovers, handmade with care and built to last.

Gift #2: The Camora Scarf by Ombré London

About the Maker: Ombré London

We’ve been stocking Ombré London at Covet for over a decade, and their scarves continue to be some of our favourite accessories to recommend - especially at this time of year.

Founded in 2014, Ombré specialises in striking prints, rich colours, and artisan finishes — many of their pieces are hand-woven or embellished using traditional techniques. Their design team travels widely, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures and textiles, and always returns to the highest-quality natural fibres: organic cotton, wool, cashmere, silk, and linen.

Ombré scarves are effortlessly wearable, yet always a little bit special.

The Gift: The Camora Scarf

A perfect blend of warmth and lightness, the Camora Scarf is crafted from a soft cotton–wool mix that makes it easy to wear from autumn through to early spring.

Its camo-inspired print gives a subtle, contemporary edge — understated enough for everyday, yet bold enough to elevate a simple winter coat. Soft, versatile, and beautifully finished, this is one of those scarves that people reach for again and again. A thoughtful gift for anyone who loves layering with a little personality.

Gift #3: Aventurine Droplet Necklace by ROC Jewellery

About the Maker: ROC Jewellery

Based in Pembrokeshire, Wales, ROC Jewellery offers a collection of beautifully crafted, 18k gold-plated pieces designed around semi-precious gemstones. The founder describes the range as “a pretty collection that showcases each gemstone’s natural beauty while remaining easy to wear - the perfect gift for someone special, or just yourself.”

Handmade in the UK, ROC’s designs are known for their organic shapes, understated elegance, and wearability. These are pieces you can treasure every day - quietly luxurious and effortlessly feminine.

The Gift: Aventurine Droplet Necklace

This gold-plated necklace features a soft green aventurine droplet — a stone believed to bring calm and confidence. Its natural shape and subtle colour make it an easy addition to any jewellery collection.

Whether worn alone or layered with other pieces, it’s the kind of necklace that adds just the right amount of detail. Lightweight, feminine, and easy to wear, it’s a thoughtful choice for someone who prefers organic shapes and natural materials in their accessories.

Gift #4: ‘From the Glasshouse’ Anywhere Spray No.28 by Priddy Essentials

About the Maker: Priddy Essentials

Based in the UK, Priddy Essentials creates beautifully formulated home and body products that balance traditional craft with contemporary minimalism. Taking design cues from Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics, their ethos centres around simplicity, small-batch quality, and purposeful design.

Each product is hand-blended, cruelty-free, and made using paraben-free and SLS-free bases. With thoughtful packaging and limited production runs, Priddy’s collections feel special - like a quiet indulgence in your daily routine.

The Gift: No.28 From the Glasshouse - Anywhere Spray

This elegant spray captures the beauty of an English garden in full bloom. Inspired by a friend’s Georgian rectory garden - home to rare herbaceous plants and antique rosebushes - the fragrance blends English fern, bougainvillea, petitgrain, and kumquat for a fresh yet romantic scent.

Versatile and uplifting, the ‘Anywhere Spray’ can be used on the body, linens, or even as a soft room mist. A thoughtful and affordable gift, perfect for those who appreciate botanical notes, gentle luxury, and the story behind what they use.

Gift #5: Yolla Black Chunky Leather Boots by Esska

About the Maker: Esska

Founded in 2006, Esska is a London-based footwear brand with a mission to create shoes that are as comfortable and high-quality as they are stylish. Their design philosophy is simple: great style should never come at the expense of how you feel.

Working with skilled artisans in Portugal, Esska produces small-batch collections using premium leathers and carefully selected vegan materials. The result is footwear that blends craftsmanship, comfort, and durability - designed to stand the test of time, both in quality and in timeless appeal.
